International Women’s Day and CNWE Toronto Action Against Human Trafficking

CNWE Toronto’s action for International Women’s Day was a powerful one for participants and for those who witnessed our presence at Bay and Bloor Sts. For many years the Toronto group of the Catholic Network for Women’s Equality has chosen this day to raise awareness about human trafficking because the majority of its victims are women and girls.

Once again this year we joined together in holding vigil on the corner of Bay and Bloor as people leave their places of work and head home.  First, we gathered for a prayerful reflection at Loretto College.  Then we silently processed to the South East corner of Bay and Bloor where we held placards of protest against human trafficking and offered people brochures explaining what it is and what we can do about it.  Despite their rush and busy-ness… many people graciously accepted the brochures and took the time to learn more.

“May we work together so that women and girls may no longer be abused, violated or diminished. We pray for the resolve and the heart to bring an end to modern day slavery. Compassionate God, may it be so!”
