Caroline Dawson was born and raised in Niagara Falls, an experience which gave her a deep love for creation and nature. She joined the Loretto Sisters in 1958. She did her BA and teacher training at the University of Toronto. She taught high school in Weyburn, Toronto and Guelph before starting theological studies in 1971 (one of the first two women admitted to the M. Div programme at St. Michael’s College). Invited to join the staff in 1976, she became a faculty member the following year with her appointment as Director of Field Education. She completed the Doctor of Ministry programme in 1984, again the first woman accepted into the programme. In the late eighties Caroline joined the team at Providence Spirituality Centre in Kingston.

In 2001 she accepted an invitation to the Loretto Spirituality Centre in Niagara Falls and continued in ministry in Niagara Falls after the Centre closed. Caroline returned to Toronto in 2010. One of her continuing ministries is as faculty member of the Haden Institute, a programme that trains people to be spiritual directors/companions. Some of Caroline’s main interests include feminism, adult learning, spiritual direction, mystery books, politics, movies and history.
